Understand the Drift Overview dashboard

Drift Overview summarizes every metadata comparison in your workspace — how many components match, how many have drifted, and which metadata types drift most.

Overview

Drift Overview is the starting point for drift detection in MetaLens360. It rolls up the results of the comparisons your team has run, so you can see at a glance whether your Salesforce environments and Git branches are in step — and where they are not.

"Drift" means a component that differs between two sides of a comparison: it was modified, or it exists on one side but not the other. The dashboard does not compare anything by itself; it summarizes comparison jobs. To get fresh numbers, run a new comparison.

You'll find it in the sidebar under Drift Detection → Drift Overview. Older bookmarks to /dashboard redirect here automatically.

Before you start

  • Connect at least one Salesforce org (and, for Git comparisons, a Git repository). See Connect a Salesforce org and Connect a Git repository.
  • Run at least one comparison. Until you do, the dashboard shows No comparisons yet. and a Run Your First Comparison button.

What you see

AreaWhat it tells you
Total ComparisonsHow many comparison jobs exist in this workspace.
MatchingComponents that are identical on both sides.
DriftedComponents that differ — modified, or missing on one side.
Total ComponentsEverything compared across your jobs.
Latest Comparison BreakdownA donut chart of the most recent comparison split into Matching, Modified, Missing in Target and Missing in Source.
Drift by Metadata Type (Top 10)The ten metadata types with the most drift, such as ApexClass or Flow.
Recent ComparisonsYour latest jobs with their status. Click one to open it, or click View All for the full list.

The page refreshes itself every 15 seconds, so a comparison you start in another tab shows up here as it progresses.

Steps

  1. In the sidebar, open Drift Detection → Drift Overview.
  2. Read the four stat cards to judge overall health. A high Drifted count relative to Matching is your signal to look closer.
  3. Check Drift by Metadata Type (Top 10) to see which kinds of components drift most. Security types such as Profile and PermissionSet deserve attention first.
  4. Under Recent Comparisons, click a job to open its full results.
  5. To compare again, click New Comparison at the top right.

Example

Priya, a release manager, opens Drift Overview on Monday morning. The Latest Comparison Breakdown for acme-uat vs acme-prod shows 42 Modified and 7 Missing in Target. The type chart shows Flow near the top. She opens the comparison from Recent Comparisons and filters to Flows to decide what must be deployed before Friday's release.

FAQs

Does Drift Overview compare my orgs live?

No. It summarizes comparison jobs that have already run. To see current drift, start a new comparison with New Comparison.

Why does the type chart show only ten types?

The chart focuses on the ten types with the most drift so the biggest problems stand out. Open a comparison to see every type.

Who can see this page?

Everyone in the workspace can view drift results.

Troubleshooting

The page says "No comparisons yet."

No comparison has been run in this workspace. Click Run Your First Comparison and follow Run a metadata comparison.

The page says "Failed to load dashboard."

The dashboard could not reach the server. Refresh the page after a moment. If it keeps happening, use Support in your profile menu — see Getting help and support.

The numbers look out of date

The dashboard only reflects comparisons that have finished. Check Recent Comparisons for a job that is still Running, or start a new one.
