Understand an org with Org Overview
Org Overview looks at one org through four lenses (what it does, how it is built, how it connects, and what needs attention), exports to Word and answers follow-up questions.
Overview
Org Overview is the fastest way to understand an org you did not build. It looks at one org's indexed metadata through four lenses: what the org does, how it's built, how it connects to the rest of the enterprise, and what deserves your attention. You can export the result to Word and then ask follow-up questions.
It works well for handovers, onboarding a new architect, or getting ready for an audit. You'll find it in the sidebar under Overview → Org Overview. If you have an old bookmark to /knowledge-transfer, it now opens this page.
Before you start
- The org must be connected, synced and indexed. Org Overview reads the local index, not the live org. See Index an org.
- Any signed-in workspace member can read the page. To build or rebuild the index with Index, you need the Index / re-index orgs permission. Every built-in role except Viewer has it.
- The written summary and follow-up answers need an AI provider. The measured profile and the Integration lens work without one. See Configure AI providers.
Steps
- Open Org Overview and pick an org from Select an org….
- Look over the profile panel. These figures are measured from the index and don't use AI: Components, Apex classes, Triggers, Flows, Tests, SOQL, High risk, SOQL in loop and Lines of code.
- If the profile is empty or looks out of date, click Index to rebuild the org's index.
- Click Generate summary to write the functional and technical halves. Once a summary exists, the button reads Regenerate.
- Generation runs in the background, so you can leave the page. The current briefing stays readable while it rewrites, and the new one will be there when you return.
- Pick a lens:
- What does the org do? opens Functional.
- How is it architected? opens Technical & Architecture.
- How does it connect to the enterprise? opens Integration Landscape. It doesn't need AI. You can filter connections by Inbound, Outbound or Bi-directional, request an AI architect briefing, and look through Event choreography.
- What should I pay attention to? opens AI Insights.
- Click Word to download the saved overview as a
.docxfile. - Type a question under Ask a follow-up and click Ask. Conversations are saved, so you can come back to one later. To start over, click Start a new conversation.
Example
Priya, a release manager, takes over acme-prod from another team. She picks the org, clicks Generate summary and goes to a meeting. When she comes back, she reads the Functional lens and then checks Integration Landscape for outbound callouts. She asks: "Which integrations would break if we refactored the Account trigger?" Finally, she downloads the Word file to attach to the handover ticket ACME-142.
FAQs
Does generating a summary change anything in Salesforce?
No. Org Overview only reads the local index. Nothing is written to your org.
Who sees the summary I generated?
The overview is saved for the org, so other members of your workspace see the same document. The Word download always contains the saved copy.
Why do the Technical and Integration lenses show data before I generate anything?
Both are built from measured metadata. Only the written functional and technical summaries need Generate summary.
Troubleshooting
"acme-uat has no indexed metadata yet."
The org hasn't been synced and indexed, so there's nothing to summarize. Click Index now in the message. If the org has never been synced, run a sync first. See Pages show no data.
"No AI provider is configured, so only the measured profile is available."
Your workspace has no working AI provider. Ask an admin to add one under Settings → AI Providers. Until then, the profile and the Integration lens still work. See AI provider not configured.
"No saved overview for this org yet."
Nobody has generated a summary for this org yet. Click Generate summary.
The profile shows 0 Flows but the org has Flows
The index may be older than a fix for how flow files are read. Click Re-index now in the notice to rebuild the index.
