Compare metadata coverage across orgs

The Metadata Coverage Matrix shows component counts for every metadata type across every synced org, so you can spot gaps and outliers and export the grid to Excel or PDF.

Updated in Org inventory & architecture

Overview

The Metadata Coverage Matrix gives you one snapshot of component counts by metadata type across all your orgs. Each row is a metadata type and each column is an org. Columns are grouped by cloud. Use it to answer questions like "Does UAT have every Flow that production has?" or "Which org is missing Named Credentials?"

Open it from the sidebar under Org Inventory → Org. Metadata Matrix.

Before you start

  • At least one org must be synced. The matrix is built from your last syncs, not from a live call. See Run your first sync.
  • Any signed-in workspace member can view the matrix.

Steps

  1. Open Org. Metadata Matrix. The header shows Total components, Orgs, Metadata types and Avg / org.
  2. Type in Search metadata type… to narrow the rows, for example Flow or Named. Search also covers the smaller types, not just the visible ones.
  3. Click Filter orgs to choose which org columns to show. Use Select all or Deselect all to change them all at once.
  4. Read the grid. The 22 largest types are shown first. Click + N smaller types to expand the rest.
    • Bar length shows the count compared with the top org in that row.
    • A 0 marks a gap. The type exists in other orgs but not in this one.
  5. Click any count to open the list of components behind it.
  6. In that list, use Copy component name to copy a name, or Find this component across all orgs to see where else it exists.
  7. Export when you need to share:
    • Excel downloads the full matrix (every type × org) as a spreadsheet file that opens in Excel.
    • PDF opens a print-ready view. Choose Save as PDF in your browser's print dialog.

Example

Priya is preparing a release to acme-prod. She filters the matrix to acme-uat and acme-prod, then searches for Flow. UAT has 214 Flows and production has 209. She clicks the UAT count, copies the names, and uses Find this component across all orgs on the five that look new. That confirms they are part of release ticket ACME-142.

FAQs

Are these counts live?

No. Each count comes from the org's most recent sync. Re-sync an org to refresh its column.

Why is a type I expect missing from the rows?

Either no synced org has components of that type, or the type was left out of a selective sync. Check the search box first, because it also searches the smaller types.

Does the Excel export include the hidden smaller types?

Yes. The export contains every type for every synced org, regardless of the search or org filter on screen.

How is this different from a comparison?

The matrix compares counts. A comparison compares the contents of components. Use Run a metadata comparison when you need line-level differences.

Troubleshooting

"No synced orgs yet — run a sync to populate the metadata matrix."

None of your connected orgs has finished a sync yet. Run one from Sync Center. See Run your first sync.

"No metadata types to show for the selected orgs."

Your org filter or search leaves nothing to show. Clear the search, or click Filter orgs and then Select all.

"Could not load components for this org."

The component list behind a count couldn't be loaded. Refresh the page and try again. If the problem continues, re-sync the org.
