Quick start for your first hour

A step-by-step checklist for your first hour in MetaLens360 — create a workspace, connect and sync an org, explore the results, set up AI, invite your team and schedule syncs.

Overview

This checklist takes you from an empty workspace to a fully working MetaLens360 setup in about an hour. Each step links to a detailed article if you need more help. Most of the hour is waiting for the first sync — you can read ahead while it runs.

Before you start

  • You need a MetaLens360 workspace where you are an Admin (the person who creates a workspace is its Admin).
  • You need a Salesforce user that can log in to the org you want to analyze and read its metadata. A sandbox such as acme-dev is a good first choice.
  • Optional: an API key from an AI provider, if you want AI insights and the assistant.

Steps

  1. Create your workspace (2 minutes). On the sign-in page, click Create account, fill in Workspace name, your details and a password, then click Create workspace. See Create a workspace.
  2. Connect a Salesforce org (5 minutes). On Home, click Add Salesforce Org (or Connect org in the header). In Connect a Salesforce Org, choose a method — SFDX Auth URL is the most durable — and save the connection. See Connect a Salesforce org and Choose a Salesforce connection method.
  3. Run your first sync (10–30 minutes, depending on org size). Open Sync Center from the header icon or Manage → Sync Center, find your org and click Sync Now. See Run your first sync.
  4. Index the org. Click Index for the org in Sync Center so analysis pages can read its components and dependencies. See Index an org.
  5. Explore the results (10 minutes):
  6. Set up AI (5 minutes, optional). Open Settings → AI Providers and follow Set up AI for this workspace: choose providers, add keys and set the fallback order. New workspaces bring their own AI keys. See Configure AI providers.
  7. Invite your team (5 minutes). Open Settings → Users, click Invite member, enter an email, pick a role and click Send invite. See Invite your team and Roles and permissions.
  8. Schedule automatic syncs (5 minutes). Open Settings → Sync Schedules, click + New Schedule, pick a time, add your orgs and save. Scheduled syncs keep every org fresh, so nothing turns Stale. See Schedule automatic syncs.
  9. Connect a second org and compare (when ready). Connect acme-prod the same way, sync it, then use Run a drift comparison on Home. See Run a comparison.

Example

Priya, a release manager, starts at 9:00. By 9:05 her workspace exists and acme-dev is connected with an SFDX Auth URL. She clicks Sync Now and, while it runs, sets up two AI providers and invites Sam (Developer) and Lee (Viewer). At 9:30 the sync finishes; she clicks Index, then opens Org Overview and the Org. Metadata Matrix. Before lunch she adds a daily schedule for acme-dev, acme-uat and acme-prod at 02:00.

FAQs

Do I have to do the steps in this order?

Steps 1–4 must come first, because every analysis page needs a synced, indexed org. Steps 6–8 can happen in any order.

How long does the first sync take?

It depends on the size of the org. A small sandbox can take a few minutes; a large production org can take longer. Later syncs are incremental and much faster.

Who else can do this setup?

Connecting orgs, scheduling syncs and setting up AI are also allowed for some other roles by default (for example, Architect). Inviting people is Admin-only. See Roles and permissions.

Troubleshooting

My first sync failed

Check the org's credentials and try again. See Troubleshoot sync failures.

Pages are empty after the sync

The org may not be indexed yet. See Pages show no data.

Invitees didn't get an email

If email isn't configured on your MetaLens360 environment, copy the invitation link from the invite dialog and send it yourself. See Invite your team.
